Steelers put Ladarius Green on PUP list after signing him to $20M deal

The Pittsburgh Steelers won't have their $20 million investment on the field when the regular season kicks off. The team placed tight end Ladarius Green on the physically unable to perform list Tuesday, forcing him to miss the first six weeks of the season.

The Steelers signed Green to a four-year, $20 million deal in March in the hopes of replacing longtime Steelers tight end Heath Miller, who retired this offseason. Green, who spent his first four years with the Chargers, had career highs in receptions (37), receiving yards (429) and touchdowns (4) in 2015.

The team didn't disclose why Green was placed on the PUP list. He contends that it's because of his ankle and has denied reports that he's been battling recurring headaches due to concussions. With Martavis Bryant suspended for the season, Green's absence gives Ben Roethlisberger one fewer top target to throw to.
