'South Park' spoofs Colin Kaepernick's national anthem protest

Published Sep. 13, 2016 9:28 a.m. ET

Colin Kaepernick kneeled alongside teammate Eric Reid during the performance of the national anthem prior to Monday's Rams-49ers game at Levi's Stadium, and since Kaepernick's original protest last month that sent shockwaves around the sports world, a number of fellow NFL players from teams around the league have supported Kaepernick by kneeling, linking arms or raising a fist during The Star-Spangled Banner

Kaepernick's protest has now become fodder for "South Park," which will return for its 20th season this week. In a teaser released on Instagram, a crowd attending a football game sings a Kaepernick-themed song to the tune of the national anthem.

South Park has taken on social issues arising from the NFL before, most recently devoting an entire episode to the Washington Redskins' name controversy. You can watch it here.
