Scobee exits Jacksonville with no hard feelings

The trade that sent Josh Scobee to the Pittsburgh Steelers caught the former Jacksonville Jaguars kicker somewhat by surprise, but Scobee said Monday he understood the team's decision to deal him for a sixth-round pick in next year's NFL draft.

With the move, the Jaguars handed the kicking job to rookie Jason Meyers.

"There’s no feelings of being hurt on my part because I understand it’s a business," Scobee said, per Gene Frenette of the Florida Times-Union. "People get older and things get more expensive. Businesses tend to find things cheaper and younger. That’s just how it works. There’s no guarantees with anything.

"I’m getting a lot of supportive responses on Twitter like, ‘How could the Jaguars do this?’ I don’t disagree with what they did because Jason is a really good kicker. He hasn’t kicked in any big games, but neither did I when I was a rookie.”

Scobee, who was drafted by the Jaguars in 2004, leaves as Jacksonville's all-time leading scorer with 1,022 points.

"I’m a little surprised, but not a whole lot of surprise because in this business, you can’t be shocked at anything that happens," Scobee said. "It’s not like I was outright released on the street. I got traded to an organization where there’s a legitimate opportunity and I’m grateful for that.”
