Saints run up the score on the Rams with beautiful 50-yard trick play

The New Orleans Saints were putting a beating on the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday, but a 21-point lead in the fourth quarter wasn’t enough.

Not against former defensive coordinator Gregg Williams’ team, at least.

With the Saints up 42-21 and 10:25 on the clock, Sean Payton called a trick play that worked to perfection. Drew Brees threw it backwards to wide receiver Willie Snead, who heaved it downfield to Tim Hightower for a 50-yard touchdown.

As you can see, there was no one within 10 yards of Hightower as the entire defense was fooled. It gave the Saints a 49-21 lead, which wound up being the final score.

Payton will never admit it, but this sure seemed like a shot at Williams, who was the guy behind the Saints’ Bountygate scandal from a few years ago.
