Ron Rivera: 50-50 shot Luke Kuechly's extension done before season

Published Aug. 19, 2015 12:16 a.m. ET

The Carolina Panthers are obviously hoping to get a new deal done with Pro Bowl linebacker Luke Kuechly sooner than later. That's not a big surprise at this point, but apparently Ron Rivera believes it's a "50-50 proposition" that it gets done before the season, according to David Newton of ESPN.

"Hopefully, it will get taken care of," Rivera told ESPN after Tuesday's practice at Wofford College. "It would be a great thing to have that taken care of, then we can go on to the next guy."

It's a completely unknown as to who the "next guy" is, but fortunately the contract negotiations between the team and Kuechly have been coming along well as preseason rolls on.

Fans would love to see this deal get done, meaning that extensions have been finalized for Greg Olsen, Cam Newton, Thomas Davis and Kuechly heading into 2015. That'd be a pretty strong spot for this organization.
