Ron Jaworski sees bright future for Jets with Geno Smith

New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith enters a possible make-or-break year in 2015. He will have to beat out Ryan Fitzpatrick and rookie Bryce Petty for the starting job. While some may not believe in Geno's ability to be a good quarterback in the NFL based on his play so far, ESPN's Ron Jaworski is optimistic about Geno heading into 2015.
“I think Geno, when I’ve looked at him now for a couple of years in the NFL, I see a quarterback that’s getting better,” Jaworski said. “He’s forgotten the mistakes and I still remember going to Morgantown, West Virginia for his Pro Day and outside of Robert Griffin III –- it was one of the best pro days I’ve seen. So he can make every throw, he can do everything it takes to be an NFL quarterback. It’s just about consistency. It’s now Year 3 and believe me we put these guys way before their time out there on the field and we expect a Peyton Manning performance. It doesn’t happen. I see a nice growth every single year in Geno and I like the future of the Jets with Geno Smith at quarterback.”
While it remains to be seen whether Smith has taken steps in improving his own play, the Jets have done everything they can this offseason to supply him with enough weapons in the hopes of making him as successful as possible.
Along with the addition of wide receiver Eric Decker last year, they added wideout Brandon Marshall in a trade with the Chicago Bears and wideout Devin Smith through the 2015 NFL Draft. Jace Amaro also enters his second season at tight end and the Jets added Stevan Ridley from New England and Zac Stacy from St. Louis this offseason.
The pieces are in place to have a successful year, Geno just has to execute when it counts.
