Romo doesn't expect to play Sunday

Published Aug. 3, 2013 1:00 a.m. ET

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo says that he does not think he will play in the team’s preseason opener against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday.

Coach Jason Garrett had previously said that he might "lean to no plays'' for Romo, according to FOX Sports Southwest.

"I don't think they're talking about some of us going to play on Sunday," Romo said after Friday's practice, according to ESPN.com. "It's whatever Coach tells you (to do). They know what's best for our football team."

Asked again if he thought he would play, the report says that Romo reiterated, "I don't think so."

Officials have said throughout training camp that the minor back surgery Romo underwent in the offseason is not a factor in the decision.
