Rex Ryan takes shot at Steelers for lack of coverage on Gronk
The Pittsburgh Steelers were burned by the man they call Gronk in Week 1. Tight end Rob Gronkowski torched the Steelers' defense for 94 yards and three touchdowns.
Part of the reason for Gronkowski's success -- along with his incredible athletic ability -- was because of the Steelers' reluctance to cover him. As strange as it sounds, it's true.
The Buffalo Bills will get their shot at shutting down Gronkowski on Sunday, and while they won't have King Kong to cover him like Rex Ryan hoped, they have a plan for slowing him down.
"Obviously, you don’t just put one guy on this guy. That’s been proven," Ryan said on a conference call with the New England media, via WEEI. "I will say this, it’s better to put one guy on him than nobody on him. We’ll try to have somebody on him at least."
That last part was a direct shot at Mike Tomlin and the Steelers for leaving Gronkowski open more often than they'd like. He was able to run free on several occasions, which is the complete opposite of what most teams try to do.
It remains to be seen how Ryan and the Bills handle Gronk, but it's likely they'll pay more attention to him than the Steelers did.
