Reports: Texans to keep Kubiak through 2012

Published Feb. 2, 2010 6:55 p.m. ET

Coach Gary Kubiak has agreed to a new contract that will keep him with the Houston Texans through the 2012 season according to two reports Tuesday.

The new deal voids the last year of the five-year contract he signed when he joined the team in 2006 and is for the next three seasons according to the Houston Chronicle and Houston television station KRIV. He told the two outlets he wanted this so his contract would end the same year as his assistant coaches.

The Texans went 9-7 for their first winning record this season, but came just short of reaching the playoffs for the first time.

Kubiak, who spent 11 years as Denver's offensive coordinator before coming to Houston, took over the team after it posted a franchise-worst 2-14 record.
