Report: Texans add a pair of ex-Giants assistants to coaching staff

The Houston Texans moved to fill two vacancies on head coach Bill O'Brien's coaching staff with a pair former New York Giants assistants, according to a reports.

Via the Houston Chronicle, the Texans have hired Sean Ryan as wide receivers coach and Larry Izzo as special teams coordinator. Both were part of former Giants head coach Tom Coughlin's staff in New York and won a Super Bowl with the team in 2011.

Ryan, who spent nine seasons with the Giants, takes over for Stan Hixon in Houston. He worked with star receiver Odell Beckham Jr., among others, during his time in New York. Beckham had 96 receptions for 1,450 yards and 13 touchdowns in 2015.

Izzo spent the last five season as the Giants' assistant special teams coach after a 14-year playing career in which he made three Pro Bowls on the strength of his special teams play. Izzo also won three Super Bowls as a member of the New England Patriots.

The 41-year-old Izzo, who played collegiately at Rice, replaces Bob Ligashesky.

The Texans struggled at times on special teams in 2015, including yielding a 106-yard kickoff return for a touchdown on the opening play of the team's playoff loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.
