Report: Rex Ryan unlikely to return next season, could be out Monday

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

Bills coach Rex Ryan is not expected to return to the team in 2017 and may be fired as soon as Monday, CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora reports

The Bills are 14–14 in two seasons under Ryan but “[i]t would take an overwhelming performance down the stretch for Ryan to be back in 2017,” La Canfora reports, adding that Ryan’s relationship with general manager Doug Whaley “is not tenable long term.”

The Bills have already shaken up the coaching staff this season, firing offensive coordinator Greg Roman after a Week 2 loss to the Jets.

Ryan might not be the only member of the team in danger of losing his job. La Canfora reports that Buffalo is unlikely to pick up quarterback Tyrod Taylor’s contract option, choosing instead to see what rookie Cardale Jones has to offer.
