Report: Marshall unlikely to be charged

Published May. 14, 2012 1:00 a.m. ET

Chicago Bears wide receiver Brandon Marshall is not expected to be charged for allegedly punching a woman in the face at a New York City nightclub, ESPN.com reported.

According to the report, investigators have been unable to find evidence confirming the former Miami Dolphins wideout struck the woman after an argument erupted at the club in March.

Marshall, who was traded to the Bears just days after the alleged incident, was accused of punching 24-year-old Christin Myles in the left eye.

An attorney representing Marshall maintained his client was not involved in the fight and that the 28-year-old receiver actually left the club after his wife was "struck in the face by a thrown bottle."

The three-time Pro Bowler said last week during a radio interview that he fully expected to be cleared of any wrongdoing.

"The situation in New York, it's unfortunate," Marshall said. "You never want to see anyone get hurt, but just the allegation of me balling my fist up and hitting a woman is just a lie.

"My wife was the victim in this situation."

The former Broncos star was reunited with former Denver teammate and current Bears quarterback Jay Cutler in March after Chicago agreed to send two third-round draft picks to Miami in exchange for the veteran wideout.
