Report: Jones, Hardy meet face-to-face to discuss Cowboys' concerns
In the eight weeks after Tony Romo went down with a broken clavicle, two things dominated the headlines in Dallas: losses and Greg Hardy.
On Sunday, the Cowboys finally got back their quarterback, and along with him came their first win since Romo suffered his injury in Week 2.
But those Hardy headlines didn’t exactly go away.
ESPN reported after Sunday’s 24-14 win over the Miami Dolphins that Cowboys owner Jerry Jones met personally with Hardy last Thursday to discuss the team’s growing concerns over Hardy’s behavior.
According to the report, Jones would not discuss specifics of the meeting, but multiple outlets did report that the owner did talk Hardy and his standing with the team in general.
"He is aware that everything he does -- his personality, his style, his enthusiasm -- it's all going to be interpreted negatively," Jones told the gathered media. "If he's not aware of that, then he's hurting a lot of people.
"I think he really gets that. We certainly feel that way. He understands it, and he has agreed to really work on it."
Jones than compared himself to Hardy before offering a reason as to why Hardy seems to be struggling with rehabbing his image.
"If anyone knows how to hunker down, it's me," Jones said. "I know when you've lost all your benefits of the doubt and you so much as run as a stop sign or step out of bounds you're fixing to answer a lot of questions."
"I will say this," Jones continued. "Over the last three or four weeks, I would hate to see anybody who had more pressure on him than Hardy. There is a genuine effort for him to rehab what is the perception of him."
Earlier in the day Sunday, NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reported that support for Hardy within the Cowboys organizatiion is waning.
The Cowboys signed Hardy in the offseason after the Carolina Panthers parted way with the pass-rushing specialist. Hardy played in only one game last season following domestic abuse charges. Over the summer the charges were dropped, but Hardy was ultimately suspended the first four games of this season.
Since joining the Cowboys, Hardy has had several instances of questionable judgment, from comments about Patriots quarterback Tom Brady's wife Gisele Bundchen and saying he would come out this season "guns blazing," to showing up late to practice and yelling at fans on the road.
