Report: Grossman to fight for Texans' backup job

Published Jun. 11, 2009 11:47 p.m. ET

A person familiar with the negotiations says the Houston Texans have agreed to a deal with quarterback Rex Grossman.

The person, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the agreement had not yet been announced, said Grossman is expected to sign after passing a physical.

Grossman, an unrestricted free agent, led the Chicago Bears to the NFC championship in 2006. The 28-year-old will compete with Alex Brink to be Houston's third quarterback behind starter Matt Schaub and Dan Orlovsky, who spent last season in Detroit.

Grossman has spent his six-year career in Chicago, where he had 33 touchdowns and 35 interceptions.
