Green Bay Packers running back Eddie Lacy's ankle sprain will require surgery and he will be placed on the team's injured reserve, according to NFL Media's Ian Rapoport.

Rapoport notes the Packers do not know if Lacy's season is over yet.

Lacy missed practice earlier in the week and was expected to be out for an extended period of time. He finished last Sunday's 30–16 loss to the Dallas Cowboys with 65 yards on 17 carries.

The Packers traded for running back Knile Davis on Tuesday to help with the team's backfield depth. Don Jackson, Randall Cobb and Ty Montgomery will also serve as options on offense.

The Packers will host the Chicago Bears on Thursday night. The game can be watched on SI.com.
