Report: Colts mull more backup QBs

The Indianapolis Colts are considering backup options at the quarterback position, The Indianapolis Star reported Tuesday.
Free agent signal callers Dan Orlovsky and Brodie Croyle will take part in a team workout, according to sources.
The Colts, already without four-time NFL MVP Peyton Manning, have just one healthy quarterback on their active roster after veteran Kerry Collins left Sunday's game with concussion-like symptoms.
Third-year quarterback Curtis Painter currently remains the only healthy option for the struggling Indianapolis team that is off to its first 0-3 start since Manning's rookie year in 1998.
Orlovsky is already familiar with the Colts' offense, having signed with the team as a free agent in late July and participated in some preseason games. He was cut before the start of the regular season.
Croyle, who was drafted by Kansas City out of Alabama in 2006, did not fare well for the Chiefs in five seasons, starting just 10 games while completing 56.7 percent of his passes for 1,669 yards, eight touchdowns and nine interceptions. He was signed briefly by the Arizona Cardinals this offseason before being let go in August.
Manning continues to recover from his latest neck surgery, done on Sept. 8. The 11-time Pro Bowler, who had three surgeries in 19 months on his bothersome neck, remains on the team's active roster as the team holds out hope for his return.
Colts owner Jim Irsay sparked a media firestorm Monday when he told a group of business executives Manning would not return this season. The vocal owner later backed off his initial comment, saying the team was evaluating the star quarterback month to month in the hopes he could return by December.
