Report: Browns release DT Ishmaa'ily Kitchen

The Browns have reportedly cut ties with another player with Ohio roots. Defensive tackle Ishmaa'ily Kitchen was released Tuesday, according to the Akron Beacon Journal.

Kitchen played in 12 games last season, starting three of them. The three-year veteran out of Kent State has appeared in 40 games as a Brown primarily in a reserve role. With the arrival of first-round pick Danny Shelton and the return of Phil Taylor from injury, Kitchen was facing an uphill battle to make the roster. The encouraging play of former practice squad player Jamie Meder this preseason also likely made Kitchen expendable.

Kitchen signed a one-year deal worth just over $1.5 million as a restricted free agent in May. He returned to practice Monday from a groin injury that kept him out of the team's third preseason game on Saturday. As of now, it looks like that will go down as his last practice as a Brown.
