Redskins mourn the death of their biggest fan, Chief Zee

Published Jul. 19, 2016 7:49 p.m. ET

The Washington Redskins on Tuesday released a statement mourning the death of longtime superfan Zema "Chief Zee" Williams. He was 75.

Chief Zee had been the 'Skins' unofficial mascot at home games for nearly 40 years, sporting the Native American headdress. He was inducted into the fan section of the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2000.

When Chief Zee's declining health limited his mobility, Redskins owner Dan Snyder reportedly purchased a scooter for him so he could continue to attend games. Fans and even former players also contributed to a GoFundMe account to prevent Chief Zee from being evicted from his home, according to multiple reports.
