In the Washington Redskins' Week 6 34-20 loss to the New York Jets, Redskins cornerback Bashaud Breeland forced a fumble and intercepted Jets quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick in one half. Redskins head coach Jay Gruden was effusive in his praise for the young cornerback.

“He’s good, man," Gruden told reporters when asked about Breeland's play. "He’s a tough guy, a competitor. He had some tough injuries he’s dealing with, fought through them, made the good strip and then, obviously the interception."

In the second half, Breeland allowed a 35-yard touchdown pass to Jets wide receiver Brandon Marshall, but Gruden thinks that the play should have been negated by an offensive pass interference.

The last touchdown to Marshall was on him (Breeland), but it looked like he got pushed in the back, but who knows?," Gruden added. "He’s a great competitor and he’s good for our football team.”

With injuries in the secondary to starting cornerbacks Chris Culliver and Deangelo Hall, Breeland has been asked to step in as the team's starter on the outside. Outside of the team's Week 4 loss to the New York Giants -- where Breeland allowed two touchdowns in coverage -- he has done a solid job in his new role.
