Geno Smith got hurt early and Ryan Fitzpatrick returned to help lead the New York Jets to victory over the Baltimore Ravens.

Two teams in need of a win made their way to MetLife Stadium in the New York Jets and Baltimore Ravens. Geno Smith made his first start since 2014, but he couldn’t last one half due to an injury. Ryan Fitzpatrick was able to play efficiently and the running game opened holes.

Early it looked like the same old Jets. Lac Edwards fumbled a punt on the snap and the Ravens recovered the ball in the end zone. But, after a Justin Tucker field goal thatput Baltimore up 10-0, it was all New York.

The defense was dominant. They allowed a mere six yards rushing—that was it. Six yards. That’s about as good as a defense can play. They finally put pressure on the quarterback, getting to Joe Flacco five times. The secondary picked him off two times, one by Buster Skrine and one by Marcus Gilchrist.

Mike Wallace got deep on the New York secondary for 53 yards, which continued the trend that has been disturbing Todd Bowles all year long. But the bottom line is that was the only black mark on the Jets defense, as they were the story of this game. When you don’t allow an offensive touchdown to your opponent, you are going to win more often than you lose.

There were two special teams miscues for New York, which needs to change. There was the fumbled snap by Edwards and the blocked field goal on Nick Folk‘s late game try. They weren’t able to extend the lead past one score which allowed Baltimore to stay in it, but New York was finally able to end their four-game losing streak.

Matt Forte, Jets — Forte got back into form for New York, running the ball 30 times for 100 yards and a touchdown. He added four catches for 54 yards and another touchdown.

Quincy Enunwa, Jets — Enunwa gets the nod for his 69-yard touchdown reception where he just turned on the afterburners and flew! Overall he posted two catches for 73 yards and the touchdown.

Mike Wallace, Ravens — Wallace played well on a bad day for the Ravens’ offense, with 10 catches for a game-high 120 yards.

Next week, New York heads up to Cleveland to face the Browns, while the Ravens head into their bye week.
