Randall Cobb gives his 2015 season a failing grade

Green Bay Packers receiver Randall Cobb gave himself a failing grade for the first season of the four-year, $40 million deal he signed to stay in Green Bay last March.

The 25-year-old Cobb played in all 16 games, but he saw drop-offs in catches (79), receiving yards (829) and touchdowns (six) from his superb 2014 season, when he made the Pro Bowl.

“I don’t feel like I had a passing grade. I don’t feel like I did enough,” Cobb said, via the Green Bay Press Gazette. “I don’t consider that a good year for myself. I needed to break more tackles and do a better job of focusing in on the catch. I don’t know what happened as far as the season goes, but it was definitely a very, very frustrating season for me personally, as well as the team. I have to be better.”

The Packers needed Cobb more than ever after losing Jordy Nelson to a torn ACL in August. Suddenly thrust into the No. 1 receiver role, Cobb struggled to get open at times and wasn’t always sure-handed catching the football when he did shake loose from coverage.

As a result, Green Bay’s annually productive offense finished the 2015 season ranked 25th in passing yards and 15th in points scored, while quarterback Aaron Rodgers posted career lows in yards per attempt and passer rating.

The former second-round pick couldn’t build off his hot start.

After catching 20 passes with four touchdowns during the first three weeks, Cobb produced 59 receptions and just two scores over the final 13 games. He failed to score over the final six weeks of the regular season, when the Packers finished 3-3 and lost the NFC North for the first time since 2010. Eventually, Cobb ended his drought with a touchdown against the Washington Redskins in the Wild-Card round.

“As one of the leaders and one of the playmakers on the team, I have to make more plays,” Cobb said. “Like I’ve always said, I’m my biggest critic. And I’ll always be my biggest critic I know.”
