Gabe Holmes impressed the Raiders enough this summer to convince them to keep four tight ends.
He couldn't be spared with the Raiders needed safety help, though. Holmes was released in a move likely made to free up space for Taylor Mays.
Holmes is a tantalizing 6-foot-5 and 260-pound prospect out of Purdue. The team would need to catch a break to pass him through waivers unclaimed.

There haven't been too many of those for the Raiders this season. And so, they might have to give up a player they love in order to grab a player they need.
#Raiders releasing TE Gabe Holmes today, per source. Hoping to re-sign him to practice squad.
