Predominantly Orange Week Eight NFL Power Rankings

Week Eight is upon us. What changes are there in the top-10? Who’s number one? Read the Power Rankings here, brought to you by Predominantly Orange.
Week seven brought another shake-up to the Top-10 of the Power Rankings. There are no more undefeated teams, meaning we have a new number one. The Denver Broncos restored some order in a smack down of the Texans, while the Falcons took a hit after their loss. Who’s number one?

1. New England Patriots (2)
The Patriots appear the team to beat in the entire NFL. Their offense is seemingly unstoppable—loaded with multiple quick twitch receivers and two great receiving tight ends. Coaching puts this team over the top each and every year. While they aren’t without flaws, they are the most complete team in the NFL at the moment.
Oct 16, 2016; Green Bay, WI, USA; Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott (4) throws the ball in the fourth quarter against the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field. Mandatory Credit: Benny Sieu-USA TODAY Sports
2. Dallas Cowboys (4)
Dallas moved up two spots, and they didn’t even have to play a game. If the season ended today, Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott should win Co-Rookie-Of-The-Year. Jason Garrett has been brilliant in tailoring this offense around his two rookies and would also be right there with Bill Belichick for Coach-of-The-Year. Soon Garrett will have a decision to make when his other quarterback is healthy. This decision will ultimately determine the success or failure of this season.
Oct 23, 2016; Glendale, AZ, USA; Arizona Cardinals kicker Chandler Catanzaro (7) reacts after missing a field goal in overtime as punter Ryan Quigley (9) and Seattle Seahawks middle linebacker Bobby Wagner (54) react at University of Phoenix Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Matt Kartozian-USA TODAY Sports
3. Seattle Seahawks (3)
The Seahawks taketh, and the Seahawks giveth away. After a terrible missed field goal by Cardinals kicker Chandler Catanzaro, the Seahawks were given new life, only to give it away on an equally terrible missed field goal. A couple things are clear; First, the Seahawks’ defense is as good as it gets in the NFL. Second, Russell Wilson is hurt. Seattle’s offense is not going to work the way they want it to without his mobility. Due to the fact that they’ve already had their bye, his mobility may not come back until next year.
Oct 23, 2016; Philadelphia, PA, USA; Minnesota Vikings quarterback Sam Bradford (8) throws a pass under pressure of the Philadelphia Eagles defense during the fourth quarter at Lincoln Financial Field. The Eagles defeated the Vikings, 21-10. Mandatory Credit: Eric Hartline-USA TODAY Sports
4. Minnesota Vikings (1)
The Vikings weakness has been exposed—offensive line. In his return to Philadelphia, Sam Bradford was awful. With no running game to be found, even a relatively good defensive performance couldn’t help the Vikings, who are undefeated no more.
Oct 24, 2016; Denver, CO, USA; Denver Broncos outside linebacker Von Miller (58) attempts to rally the crowd in the fourth quarter against the Houston Texans at Sports Authority Field at Mile High. The Broncos defeated the Texans 27-9. Mandatory Credit: Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports
5. Denver Broncos (11)
#DEFWU. Don’t ever mess with this team. The Broncos had their way with the Texans on this night, proving to Brock Osweiler that it’s not always greener on the other side. The offensive line that had been atrocious for the past two weeks blocked for 190 yards against a very good Texans front. Trevor Siemian wasn’t flashy but was efficient. The defense was dominant, holding Osweiler to 3.2 yards per attempted pass—second lowest total in NFL history for a passer with more than 40 passing attempts. The defense may not be the all-time great it was a season ago, but to those who think they have severely regressed, they are sorely mistaken.
Oct 20, 2016; Green Bay, WI, USA; Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers (12) reacts after throwing a touchdown pass in the fourth quarter during the game against the Chicago Bears at Lambeau Field. The Packers beat the Bears 26-10. Mandatory Credit: Benny Sieu-USA TODAY Sports
6. Green Bay Packers (6)
Green Bay got back on the winning track last Thursday, but still things don’t seem quite right. They still trailed in the third quarter to a Bears team that lost their backup quarterback to injury and was playing with Matt Barkley. The offensive line of the Packers has been fantastic, providing Rodgers with more time than ever to throw. This would seem to be a great recipe for success—but something just isn’t quite right.
Oct 23, 2016; Kansas City, MO, USA; Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith (11) signals his team during the second half against the New Orleans Saints at Arrowhead Stadium. The Chiefs won 27-21. Mandatory Credit: Jeff Curry-USA TODAY Sports
7. Kansas City Chiefs (10)
Since taking a serious licking by the Steelers, the Chiefs have looked like a very good football team. Once he’s fully healthy, the combination of Jamal Charles and Spencer Ware will be deadly in the run game. The defense is not as dominant as in recent years, but at some point they hope to get Justin Houston back. Even now, while they do a lot of bending, they also force a lot of turnovers as well. The Chiefs are easily the second best team in the AFC West and should have a good shot to get back to the playoffs.
Oct 23, 2016; Jacksonville, FL, USA; Oakland Raiders outside linebacker Malcolm Smith (53) celebrates a fourth down stop during the second half of a football game against the Jacksonville Jaguars at EverBank Field. The Raiders won 33-16. Mandatory Credit: Reinhold Matay-USA TODAY Sports
8. Oakland Raiders (12)
The Raiders continue to win games, but don’t have that signature win against a good team on their resume yet. They will get their chance in the second half of the year as their schedule turns from cake to terror. It’s hard to imagine the Raiders not getting to 9 or 10 wins, but coming soon, we shall find out if this team is for real or not.
9. Atlanta Falcons (5)
Atlanta truly let one slip through their fingers here, allowing the Chargers to come all the way back from 17 points down on their home field. The Seahawks loss was acceptable, but this type of loss simply cannot happen if the Falcons are serious about competing for a Super Bowl. In any case, their division is very weak, and they still control their own destiny to the playoffs.
Oct 23, 2016; Glendale, AZ, USA; Arizona Cardinals kicker Chandler Catanzaro (7) looks on after missing a field goal in overtime against the Seattle Seahawks at University of Phoenix Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Matt Kartozian-USA TODAY Sports
10. Arizona Cardinals (13)
Anyone who watched the Sunday Night game knows that the Cardinals highly outplayed the visiting Seahawks. However, miscue after miscue forced them to take a tie. They can’t be too disappointed after their kicker blew it in overtime, because they should have come away with a loss. Serious question—are the Cardinals currently working out kickers?
Oct 23, 2016; Philadelphia, PA, USA; Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Dorial Green-Beckham (18) celebrates his touchdown catch with Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Jordan Matthews in the third quarter against the Minnesota Vikings at Lincoln Financial Field. Mandatory Credit: James Lang-USA TODAY Sports
11. Philadelphia Eagles (14)
Just when you thought that the 3-0 start was a mirage, they come out and knock off the last undefeated team in the league. Carson Wentz had his struggles, but the kid is resilient. What was even more impressive was the defense. This was a bad defense a year ago, and Jim Schwartz has them playing really well. It’s still early, but one thing we do know is that the Eagles are a far better team then most predicted.
Oct 23, 2016; Pittsburgh, PA, USA; Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Landry Jones (3) throw a pass in front of New England Patriots defensive lineman Anthony Johnson (96) during the second half at Heinz Field. The Patriots won 27-16. Mandatory Credit: Jason Bridge-USA TODAY Sports
12. Pittsburgh Steelers (7)
Let’s be honest, it wasn’t a terrible showing for the Steelers. They had their chances in the second half, and at the very least, were competitive against the best team in the NFL. But let’s be honest again—the Steelers are going nowhere without Big Ben.
Oct 23, 2016; Atlanta, GA, USA; San Diego Chargers strong safety Dexter McCoil (23) celebrates a defensive stop of the Atlanta Falcons in overtime of their game at the Georgia Dome. The Chargers won 33-30 in overtime. Mandatory Credit: Jason Getz-USA TODAY Sports
13. San Diego Chargers (20)
You could make a legitimate claim that the Chargers could be 7-0. In every loss the Chargers have suffered they squandered a fourth quarter lead. Now, the breaks that were going against them in the first five games have begun to go the other way. This team is FAR better than their record would indicate.
Oct 23, 2016; Miami Gardens, FL, USA; Miami Dolphins outside linebacker Neville Hewitt (46) grabs Buffalo Bills quarterback Tyrod Taylor (5) during the second half at Hard Rock Stadium. The Miami Dolphins defeat the Buffalo Bills 28-25. Mandatory Credit: Jasen Vinlove-USA TODAY Sports
14. Buffalo Bills (8)
The Bills ran into a division opponent in Miami that has played some very strong football the past two weeks. Clearly Buffalo didn’t have their “A” game either, something that they will need to bring next week as they host Tom Brady and the Patriots. The Bills already have a win in hand against the Pats, a second one could be very important down the stretch.
Oct 23, 2016; Detroit, MI, USA; Washington Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins (8) runs for a touchdown against Detroit Lions free safety Glover Quin (27) during the fourth quarter at Ford Field. Lions won 20-17. Mandatory Credit: Raj Mehta-USA TODAY Sports
15. Washington Redskins (9)
The Lions are the Chargers of the NFC—a team that is better than their record indicates. The Skins were a stop away from a five game win streak, but these things happen—no need to panic. The Redskins are still alive in the NFC East, but have some work to do.
Oct 23, 2016; London, ENG; Wide receiver Odell Beckham (13) of the New York Giants runs with the ball against the Los Angeles Rams during the third quarter of the game between the Los Angeles Rams and the New York Giants at Twickenham Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Steve Flynn-USA TODAY Sports
16. New York Giants (16)
This was a good win for the Giants. Eli Manning didn’t throw a touchdown pass, so for the Giants to win a game on the laurels of their defense bodes well. It is good to be able to win games in different types of ways—it’s the mark of a good team.
Oct 23, 2016; Detroit, MI, USA; Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford (9) pumps his fist during the fourth quarter against the Washington Redskins at Ford Field. Lions won 20-17. Mandatory Credit: Raj Mehta-USA TODAY Sports
17. Detroit Lions (24)
The Lions are the Chargers of the NFC. Matthew Stafford is playing as well as he ever has, and their offense is really humming. They still have the issue of having a poor defense, something that will stop them from being a true contender.
Oct 23, 2016; Santa Clara, CA, USA; Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston (3) after a touchdown against the San Francisco 49ers during the third quarter at Levi
18. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (24)
After two consecutive wins the Buc’s find themselves at 3-3, and only a half game behind the Falcons with a win already in hand for tiebreaker purposes. The Falcons better watch themselves or these young Buc’s will overtake them for the division lead.
Oct 23, 2016; Cincinnati, OH, USA; Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver A.J. Green (18) catches a pass for a touchdown as he is defended by Cleveland Browns strong safety Ibraheim Campbell (24) and strong safety Ibraheim Campbell (24) in the first half at Paul Brown Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Aaron Doster-USA TODAY Sports
19. Cincinnati Bengals (23)
It’s hard to declare a team “back” after beating the Browns—but how good is A.J. Green? If the Bengals can finally get back a healthy Tyler Eifert, they should have enough weapons to get back into the playoff conversation.
Oct 24, 2016; Denver, CO, USA; Houston Texans quarterback Brock Osweiler (17) reacts following a holding penalty in the second quarter against the Denver Broncos at Sports Authority Field at Mile High. Mandatory Credit: Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports
20. Houston Texans (15)
Patriots, Vikings, Broncos. Each time the Texans have played a great team, they have wilted like the pretenders that they are. They have a nice win vs. KC—other than that, it’s been close wins against bad teams. Brock Osweiler has been a monumental failure for his price tag. The Texans are going nowhere very very fast.
Oct 23, 2016; Nashville, TN, USA; Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck (12) avoids pressure from Tennessee Titans linebacker Brian Orakpo (98) during the first half at Nissan Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Christopher Hanewinckel-USA TODAY Sports
21. Indianapolis Colts (26)
That loss to the Texans is looking worse and worse this week. Had Indy held on, they’d be in first place in their division. That said, the Texans are a train wreck waiting to happen, and the Jags should be looking for a new coach as we speak. This leaves the Titans as the biggest threat to the Colts to win the division, a team that they just beat.
Oct 23, 2016; Miami Gardens, FL, USA; Miami Dolphins running back Jay Ajayi (23) runs the ball against the Buffalo Bills during the second half at Hard Rock Stadium. The Miami Dolphins defeat the Buffalo Bills 28-25. Mandatory Credit: Jasen Vinlove-USA TODAY Sports
22. Miami Dolphins (29)
Think Jay Ajayi was a fluke? Think again. Back to back 200 yard rushing games have made him a must-start in fantasy leagues. What’s gone unnoticed is two big wins against good teams. The Dolphins are moving in the right direction—something that will keep Adam Gase safe for awhile.
Oct 23, 2016; Nashville, TN, USA; Tennessee Titans safety Kevin Byard (31) and teammate Titans strong safety Daimion Stafford (24) break up a pass intended for Indianapolis Colts tight end Erik Swoope (86) during the second half at Nissan Stadium. Indianapolis won 34-26. Mandatory Credit: Jim Brown-USA TODAY Sports
23. Tennessee Titans (19)
The Titans are putting themselves in a great position to dominate this division for years to come—just not this year. Could they pull out a division title? Maybe—the South is a terrible division, but it’s not likely. However even in losing they are winning. They have a young QB, a young LT, a young RB and veteran running back, and a bevy of picks coming to them for the number one pick. Not to mention they should be drafting high themselves, if they can put together a good draft this offseason, next year the South will be the Titans to lose.
Oct 23, 2016; Jacksonville, FL, USA; Under pressure from Oakland Raiders defensive end Khalil Mack (52) Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles (5) throws an underhand pass during the second half of a football game at EverBank Field. The Raiders won 33-16. Mandatory Credit: Reinhold Matay-USA TODAY Sports
24. Jacksonville Jaguars (18)
The Jags certainly own the title for “Most Disappointing Team of 2016.” Gus Bradley finally had his talented squad, and was supposed to show why he deserved to be the head coach. The Jaguars have a lot of talent on both sides of the ball—the product on the field is a joke and Gus Bradley should be searching for a new job right now.
Oct 23, 2016; East Rutherford, NJ, USA; Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Devin Hester (14) recovers his own fumble during the second half at MetLife Stadium. The Jets defeated the Ravens 24-16. Mandatory Credit: Ed Mulholland-USA TODAY Sports
25. Baltimore Ravens (17)
3-0 seems like a LONG time ago for the Ravens. They’ve now dropped four straight to fall below .500. Watching the Ravens, something is missing. Just not quite sure what it is.
Oct 23, 2016; East Rutherford, NJ, USA; New York Jets quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick (14) looks to pass the ball during the second half at MetLife Stadium. The Jets defeated the Ravens 24-16. Mandatory Credit: Ed Mulholland-USA TODAY Sports
26. New York Jets (27)
What is it about playing in front of Ryan Fitzpatrick that dooms you to a bad injury? With Geno Smith out for the year on a seemingly harmless play, Fitz is back in action. The Jets may want to turn to Bryce Petty or Christian Hackenberg, but may be afraid to put them out there with the Fitzpatrick curse showing up in full force last week.
Sep 18, 2016; Foxborough, MA, USA; New England Patriots running back LeGarrette Blount (29) is tackled by Miami Dolphins outside linebacker Neville Hewitt (46) during the fourth quarter at Gillette Stadium. The New England Patriots won 31-24. Mandatory Credit: Greg M. Cooper-USA TODAY Sports
Oct 23, 2016; London, United Kingdom; Los Angeles Rams quarterback Case Keenum (17) the fumbles the ball against the New York Giants during the second quarter at Twickenham Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Steve Flynn-USA TODAY Sports
27. Los Angeles Rams (22)
Is it Jared Goff time yet? The world wants to see what the number one overall pick can do. Apparently he can’t do much if he can’t beat out Case Keenum on a bad Rams team.
Oct 16, 2016; New Orleans, LA, USA; Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton (1) is pressured by New Orleans Saints defensive tackle Nick Fairley (90) during the third quarter at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. The Saints won 41-38. Mandatory Credit: Derick E. Hingle-USA TODAY Sports
28. Carolina Panthers (28)
Maybe the bye was just what this team needs. They are, after all, only two games back in the L column. What would be even better would be a time machine to go back and not release Josh Norman. Hindsight is always 20/20.
Oct 23, 2016; Kansas City, MO, USA; New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees (9) walks to the side line during the first half against the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Jeff Curry-USA TODAY Sports
29. New Orleans Saints (25)
It’s very unfortunate for Drew Brees that he has to spend his final years as an elite QB with such a poor team. Drew deserves better. The defense in New Orleans is simply pitiful. Until that gets dramatically better, the Saints won’t be any good.
Oct 20, 2016; Green Bay, WI, USA; Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler (6) watches team warm up before game against the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field. Mandatory Credit: Benny Sieu-USA TODAY Sports
30. Chicago Bears (30)
Brian Hoyer is on IR, and Jay Cutler is healed—how convenient. Jay will have one more shot to be the Bears starter, chances are he will be playing for another team in 2017.
Oct 23, 2016; Santa Clara, CA, USA; Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Russell Shepard (89) scores a touchdown against San Francisco 49ers cornerback Rashard Robinson (33) during the second quarter at Levi
31. San Francisco 49ers (31)
After jumping out to a 14-0 lead, the Niners looked like the disaster they have been since week two. Kaepernick is clearly better than Gabbert, but who cares?
Oct 23, 2016; Cincinnati, OH, USA; Cleveland Browns quarterback Kevin Hogan (8) is sacked by Cincinnati Bengals defensive end Carlos Dunlap (96) in the second half at Paul Brown Stadium. The Bengals won 31-17. Mandatory Credit: Aaron Doster-USA TODAY Sports
32. Cleveland Browns (32)
Robert Griffin III, Josh McCown, Cody Kessler, Charlie Whitehurst, and Kevin Hogan. These are the five quarterbacks that the Browns have used this season. IT’S BEEN SEVEN GAMES.
