Post-Game Recap: Oakland Raiders vs. Kansas City Chiefs
Post-Game Recap of the Oakland Raiders Week 6 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.
The Oakland Raiders got beat in every facet of the game at home today by the Kansas City Chiefs. Especially in the 2nd half, as Andy Reid’s bunch outscored Jack Del Rio’s 13-0 after halftime.
For the game, the Chiefs out-gained the Raiders 406-286, held the ball for 13 more minutes, out-rushed the Raiders by 118 yards, had fewer penalties, and won the turnover battle 2-0.
Oakland’s offense looked to have something going to potentially get back in the game with around 7:30 remaining in the contest, but Derek Carr fumbled while moving up in the pocket near the red zone and the Chiefs took over, already leading 26-10. The Raiders didn’t threaten to get back in game from that point on.
Second-year wideout Amari Cooper had a gigantic afternoon for Bill Musgrave’s offense, hauling in 129 receiving yards on 10 receptions. Six other receivers recorded 12 total receptions for 96 yards, including and a first quarter touchdown by Andre Holmes. No other Oakland pass-catcher recorded more than 3 receptions for 29 yards or added a score.
Derek Carr completed 65% of his passes for 225 yards, 1 touchdown and 1 interception. The third-year signal-caller was also sacked twice. For a large portion of the second half, Carr was just 2 of 7 for 11 yards.
With Latavius Murray out again, DeAndre Washington paced the Raiders ground-attack with 49 yards on 10 carries. Fellow rookie-back Jalen Richard and Carr both amassed 8 yards rushing on 7 total carries to round out the anemic Raiders rushing performance.
Rookie safety Karl Joesph had a solid afternoon to lead the team in tackles with 9 (7 solo) while Khalil Mack, Cory James, and David Amerson each had 7. Mack recored his second sack of the season in the first quarter, which was Oakland’s only sack of the afternoon. It was Joseph’s fourth straight week finishing first or second on the team in tackles.
Jalen Richard had a 50-yard kick return to open the game. Sebastian Janikowski was one for two on field goals with a long of 46, while Marquette punted 3 times for 159 yards (53.0 yards per punt).
With the Denver Broncos Thursday night loss in San Diego, the Raiders are still tied for 1st place in the AFC West, and are now tied for the AFC’s second best record after Pittsburgh lost to Miami, and Buffalo beat San Francisco. The Texans could also move into a tie with Oakland with a win Sunday night when they host Indianapolis.
The Raiders will look to get back in the win column next Sunday morning at 10:00 am PST when, they visit a Jacksonville Jaguars (2-3) squad fresh off a gigantic come-from-behind victory in Chicago.
