Ponder leaves game with right hip injury

Published Jan. 1, 2012 2:10 p.m. ET

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder left the game against Chicago in the second quarter with an injured right hip.

The rookie was crunched by Bears defensive lineman Israel Idonije just after throwing an incomplete pass. Ponder was able to walk off under his own power, but he was limping badly and in noticeable pain.

The team called Ponder's return questionable.

Joe Webb replaced Ponder for the third time in the last four games. Ponder was knocked out of last week's game with a concussion, but passed all the necessary tests this week to be cleared to play.

Ponder first injured his hip earlier this season against Denver, but did not miss a start because of it.
