Philadelphia Eagles vs Chicago Bears: Final thoughts and a prediction

Expect Carson Wentz to have a tougher time in week two as Vic Fangio will have something special up his sleeve.

Any fan of the Philadelphia Eagles who has been around for a while will probably tell you that this team has had its’ issues with the Chicago Bears. Once upon a time, Jay Cutler walked into Philadelphia and sliced this team up through the air. Randall Cunningham and company went to Soldier Field once and a fog descend over the field. Then, there were the failures of both Donovan McNabb and Michael Vick. It’s hard to put your finger on what it is, but things don’t seem to go right when the guys in green go to Chicago.

This time they walk in with a rookie quarterback. Carson Wentz had an impressive debut in week one but the Bears are a step up from what he saw last week. Based on what we know about Chicago, their plan on offense is probably going to be to establish their running game and occasionally take some deep shots here and there. On, defense the plan is a little more simple. They want to do whatever it takes to get after the young signal caller.

The question is can they? Last week against the Houston Texans, the Bears got to Brock Osweiler a total of eight times, resulting in two sacks. The Texans were missing two starters on the line, and the Eagles appear to be a little better equipped to handle the Bears’ 3-4 scheme, but again, this is Chicago, and strange things always happen when these two teams meet.

Here are two interesting things to think about: Rookie cornerback Deiondre’ Hall played Wentz twice in college. Fangio’s defenses are 5-2 against rookie quarterbacks since 2011. Still the Eagles should have just enough talent on both sides of the ball to walk out of this one with a close victory.

Prediction: Eagles 24, Bears 20
