Paul Turner added to Philadelphia Eagles practice squad
Paul Turner isn’t going anywhere.
What a week for Philadelphia Eagles rookie wideout Paul Turner. 24 hours after making the Eagles’ 53-man roster, Turner was waived in favor of Bryce Treggs, whom the Eagles were awarded off waivers. As it turns out, Turner will remain in Philadelphia after all.
According to Dave Zangaro of CSN Philly, Turner turned down multiple offers from other teams to remain in Philadelphia.
Turner was spectacular this preseason, leading the Eagles with 165 receiving yards and leading the entire NFL with 17 receptions in four games of limited playing time. He also returned a punt 71 yards for a touchdown in the Eagles’ final game of the preseason.
It’s hard to imagine Turner won’t get an opportunity with the Eagles at some point during the regular season. The Eagles’ receiving corps is below average at best and an opportunity can arise at any given time if the wideouts don’t meet the coaching staff’s expectations. Turner could also be the Eagles’ first option if one of the team’s top five receivers gets injured.
The fact that Turner chose not to join another time could indicate that the Eagles have plans for him down the road. Until then, however, Turner will be a reserve.
A really, really good one.
