Patriots sign RB Montee Ball
By Mark Fishman
The New England Patriots signed former Denver Broncos running back Montee Ball Tuesday.
The singing of Ball likely indicates that starting running back LeGarrette Blount, who left Sunday night's game against the Houston Texans with a hip injury, will miss some time.
Ball, a star running back at the University of Wisconsin, was a second-round draft pick by Broncos in 2013. After coming on strong toward the tail end of the 2013 season, Ball was expected to be Denver's running back of the future. However, injuries and inconsistent play led the Broncos to release Ball prior to the beginning of the 2015 season.
Now, it appears Ball has second chance of making a dent in the NFL with its most successful franchise since the turn of the millennium.
Ball has rushed for 731 yards in 21 career games.
