New England defensive end Andre Carter was carted off the field with what appeared to be a left knee injury at the end of the first quarter against Denver on Sunday.
Carter was hurt attempting to tackle Broncos running back Lance Ball. Carter immediately grabbed his left knee after the play at the Patriots 13.
The 11-year veteran is one of the top tacklers on New England's banged-up defense. The Patriots were already missing linebacker Brandon Spikes (knee) and safety Patrick Chung (foot).
Earlier, Broncos running back Willis McGahee hobbled to the sideline with what was being called a left leg injury. He appeared to be stretching out his left hamstring on a foam roller near the Broncos bench. His return is probable.
