Patriots claim RB Trey Williams, place rookie DE Trey Flowers on IR
The New England Patriots made a handful of moves on Tuesday, hoping to shore up their return game and offensive weapons.
In addition to signing wide receiver and kick returner Damaris Johnson, the Patriots added running back Trey Williams, who was most recently with the Dallas Cowboys. To make room for Johnson and Williams, the Patriots put rookie defensive end Trey Flowers on season-ending injured reserve.
Williams, an undrafted rookie, was claimed by the Cowboys off of the Washington Redskins' practice squad but he never appeared in a single game for Dallas. The 5-foot-7 running back also has experience as a kick returner, joining Johnson as a viable option in that area.
Flowers, a fourth-round pick in 2015, played in just one game as a rookie but did not record a tackle. He played well in the preseason, but shoulder and knee injuries limited his production and ultimately ended his season.
