Panthers Injury Report: Week 4
The Carolina Panthers injury report was released on Friday and saw one major surprise that should shakeup their Week 4 matchup with Atlanta.
The Panthers official injury report for the week was released on Friday and this time around it has hit the team at a number of positions. Joining lead back Jonathan Stewart (hamstring/out) on the sidelines this week will be rookie defensive tackle Vernon Butler (ankle/out) and starting left tackle Michael Oher (concussion/out).

linebackers Jeremy Cash and David Mayo were listed but both are now considered non-injured after participating fully this week. Fellow linebacker A.J. Klein did not practice all week due to the death of his father but is expected to play on Sunday and veteran defensive end Charles Johnson who was limited this week, is listed as questionable with a quad injury but is expected to play according to head coach Ron Rivera.
While Stewart and Butler were expected absences for Sunday, Oher’s injury came as quite a surprise for the team. On Friday, Oher apparently reported that he had a headache and was experiencing concussion-like symptoms which put him into the league’s concussion protocol and essentially made him inactive for Carolina’s game with Atlanta.
In the absence of Stewart, running backs Cameron Artis-Payne and Fozzy Whittaker filled in nicely last week and should only improve with another game under their belts. And to replace Butler, who is likely out for the next couple weeks, the team brought back defensive tackle Kyle Love earlier in the week.
Replacing their starting left tackle who hasn’t missed a single of his 22 games with the team is another story though.
Carolina was already dealing with some subpar offensive line play of late and now will be forced to shuffle around their lineup and start an inexperienced player at a crucial position.
During his press conference on Friday, Rivera said the team was still deciding what to do with the lineup. Right now their options to fill in at left tackle would be former undrafted free agent Donald Hawkins, 2015 fourth round pick Daryl Williams or right tackle Mike Remmers. Should the team decide to go with option number three and slide the more experienced Remmers over to the left side, Williams would likely slot in at right tackle.
Any way the team decides to go, there will be limited time to get things right before Sunday. Luckily for Carolina though, the Atlanta defense has just three sacks on the year.
