Pagano: Don't bet against Robert Mathis
Indianapolis Colts linebacker Robert Mathis is 34 and coming off a torn Achilles suffered last year. His return is up in the air, but Mathis has promised to be back by the team's season-opener September 13. When he does make it back on the field, will he be able to recapture the form that resulted in 19.5 sacks in 2013?
Head coach Chuck Pagano said despite his age and injury, Mathis isn't like most players.
“When he gets cleared, we’ll get him back on the grass,” Pagano said, via the Colts' official website. “Then when we get him back, we’ve got to be smart with how we get him back in the lineup and those type of things. Time will tell. I’m not Kreskin or Nostradamus. I don’t know. I’m not trying to be a jokester. I don’t know. If anybody can do it, I’m putting my money on him."
A healthy Mathis would be a major boost to a Colts team that enters the season as a serious Super-Bowl contender.
