Oakland Raiders Fall in ESPN's Power Rankings

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

Week 7 edition of where the Oakland Raiders land on ESPN’s Power Rankings.

The weekly journey the Oakland Raiders have taken in ESPN’s weekly power rankings has been up and down. 11th in the preseason to 11th, 10th, 16th, 14th, 9th and 12th through the first six games.

After an ugly loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 6, the Raiders fell to 4-2 on the season. They fell to 14th in ESPN’s Power Rankings.

Derek Carr has some nice receivers to throw to, but no other team has been more dependent on that position group so far this season. He has thrown an NFL-high 140 passes and 11 touchdowns to wide receivers this season, and has thrown only one touchdown to all other skill positions.

There are five 4-2 teams ahead of Oakland — Denver, Atlanta, Pittsburgh, Buffalo and Washington. Houston is the only 4-2 team ranked below the Raiders, at 17.

The Packers (3-2), Chiefs (3-2), Giants (3-3), and Cardinals (3-3) are the teams with worse records that are ranked ahead of the Raiders.

It’s hard to complain about this ranking though, simply because of the defense. Having one of the best offenses in the league paired with the worst defense, and that averages out to make a middle-of-the-pack team.

What are your thoughts on the rankings? Too high, too low, or just right?
