Here’s a look at five teams on upset alert heading into NFL Week 5 of the 2016 season.
After another exciting week of football, it’s time to take a look at five mores teams on upset alert heading into NFL Week 5.
From the Chicago Bears picking up their first win of the season against the Detroit Lions to the Buffalo Bills shocking the NFL world by recording a shutout on the road against the New England Patriots, it’s going to be difficult to top what went down in Week 4, but it’s certainly possible. Not to mention nobody could have predicted the Atlanta Falcons to manhandle the Carolina Panthers the way they did while moving up to the top of the NFC South standings.
So what’s in store for the fifth week of the young NFL season? Well, for starters, there are two teams in the Philadelphia Eagles and Denver Broncos that are at risk for receiving their first loss of 2016 with tough matchups on Sunday. It may seem crazy, but the best part about the NFL is anything seems possible on any given Sunday.
Along with the Eagles and Broncos, here’s a look at the rest of the team on upset alert for NFL Week 5 that all fans should keep an eye on once Sunday rolls around.

5. Los Angeles Rams
When it comes to the biggest surprises of the 2016 season, the Los Angeles Rams rank near the top of that list thanks to their 3-1 start. After a disastrous 28-0 loss to the San Francisco 49ers in Week 1, nobody could have predicted the Rams to be on top of the NFC West heading into Sunday’s matchup against the Buffalo Bills, but here they are.

If Los Angeles can march into the desert and walk away with a victory over the Arizona Cardinals, a home matchup against Buffalo would seem like the perfect opportunity to improve to 4-1. However, with the Bills coming off of back-to-back wins against the Arizona Cardinals and New England Patriots, this matchup is going to be a lot tougher than originally expected for the Rams.
The defense will obviously be a key factor in Sunday’s game for the Rams, but if Jeff Fisher‘s squad is going to pull of the win in this one, the offense is going to need to shine like it has over the last two weeks. Case Keenum has taken his game to a whole new level as he continues to prove he was the right choice at starting quarterback, and whether Los Angeles can pull off the win will most likely fall on his shoulders. Keenum knows every game is an audition, and with the Bills on a hot streak, let’s hope the veteran comes through.

4. Philadelphia Eagles
Will the Philadelphia Eagles be rusty coming out of the bye week? Or will Carson Wentz and company pick up right where they left off against the Detroit Lions?
What the Eagles have accomplished this year has been nothing short of amazing as Wentz has exceed all expectations over his first three games on top of the defense playing at an extremely high level. Nobody could have predicted Philadelphia’s defense wouldn’t have allowed a passing touchdown heading into Week 5, but Jim Schwartz has been phenomenal in his first year as defensive coordinator for the team.
In Week 5, Schwartz’s defense will face another tough challenge with the Lions’ offense led by Matthew Stafford. Don’t be fooled by Detroit’s 1-3 record as this team could easily be sitting above .500 when considering each of their three losses have come by single digits.
The passing game for the Lions is loaded with plenty of talent for Stafford to work with, and the Eagles are the unfortunate victims of playing a team coming off a frustrating loss to the Chicago Bears. In other words, Detroit will be more motivated to get back on the winning track while playing at home against Philadelphia.

3. Oakland Raiders
The argument can be made the Oakland Raiders are one of the hottest teams in football heading into Week 5, which makes them the perfect victims for being on upset alert against the San Diego Chargers.
At the beginning of the season, the Raiders were considered one of the top teams to keep an eye on when it comes to sleepers in the AFC, and so far, they’ve lived up to the hype after jumping out to a 3-1 start. What’s even more impressive for Oakland is all three of their wins have come on the road, with their only loss coming at home against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 2.
As long as the Raiders continue this success, there’s every reason to believe this team is finally ready to compete in the AFC West. With that being said, Oakland’s first big test in the division will take place on Sunday against San Diego, a team feeling plenty of frustration over how many losses could easily be wins.
In each of their three losses, the Chargers were holding on to a lead at one point in the fourth quarter. For a team that lost nine games in 2015 by single digits, expect San Diego to come out firing in this one to make a statement about being contenders in the AFC West.

2. Green Bay Packers
As soon as critics jumped all over Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers following a tough loss to the Minnesota Vikings in Week 2, the quarterback came back strong by throwing four touchdowns in the first half against the Lions. While the Packers have to be thrilled over playing at home following a bye week, it certainly won’t be easy squaring off against Eli Manning and the New York Giants.
On paper, the Giants seem to have the potential to put up a ton of points on a weekly basis when looking at all of the weapons Manning has to work with in the passing game. From Odell Beckham Jr. to the emergence of rookie Sterling Shepard, it’s amazing to see New York on the bottom of the NFC East heading into Week 5 when considering the talent on offense.
With Green Bay’s passing defense ranking near the bottom of the league, Sunday’s matchup seems like the perfect opportunity for Manning and the passing game to come up with the type of performance fans have been waiting for. These teams may not have met over the last couple of years, but it should be noted that New York has won the last three meetings between these two teams, which is why this matchup has upset written all over it.

1. Denver Broncos
Football fans couldn’t ask for a better matchup on Sunday between two of the hottest teams when the Atlanta Falcons hit the road to take on the defending Super Bowl champions in the Denver Broncos.
This game features one of the league’s hottest offenses led by Matt Ryan and Julio Jones going against arguably the best defense the NFL has to offer in the Broncos. Unfortunately, something is going to have to give when these two teams meet on Sunday. And while Denver’s defense has already shut down some of the league’s top quarterbacks between Cam Newton and Andy Dalton, Atlanta’s offense led by Ryan could turn out to be their toughest task yet.
With the way the Falcons have been playing, this looks like a team capable of beating anyone as Jones is coming off one of the best performances displayed so far in 2016 after catching 12 passes for 300 yards with a touchdown against the Carolina Panthers in Week 4. Even if the Broncos focus most of their attention on shutting down Jones, this could open up the doors for other players like Mohamed Sanu in the passing game.
And if that happens, don’t be surprised if Atlanta puts Denver at risk for losing their first game of the 2016 season.
