NFL Rumors: Dexter McCluster breaks arm moving luggage, out for season

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

The San Diego Chargers can’t catch a break this season. They lost another player for the year. Dexter McCluster broke his arm moving luggage of all things.

The San Diego Chargers are going through players this season like Spinal Tap went through drummers in their rockumentary. Four Chargers had been lost for the season before November 1st: Stevie Johnson, Keenan Allen, Manti Te’o, and Danny Woodhead.

Now it seems that the Chargers will add a fifth name to that season-ending injury list. Running back Dexter McCluster is out for the year after breaking his forearm. How he did it was very strange: in a freak luggage accident.

Yes, McCluster broke his forearm trying to move luggage in his home. He had x-rays on Saturday to confirm that he did break his arm, according to reports from the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Even with these absurd number of injuries happening to key players, the Chargers have been a competitive team all season. Quarterback Philip Rivers is thriving now that former offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt is back in the fold. San Diego is seeing players like Joey Bosa and Denzel Perryman play well on defense.

The Chargers may not get to the AFC Playoffs this season, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t playing well. It has more to do with the AFC West being the deepest division in the NFL this season. The AFC West should end up sending three teams to the AFC Playoffs.

McCluster had been getting more opportunities in the San Diego offense, as he was very familiar with what Whisenhunt wanted to do offensively from their time together in Nashville with the Tennessee Titans.

Seemingly every year, one NFL player hurts himself off the field in a ridiculous way. McCluster breaking his forearm moving luggage takes the cake for the craziest injury of the 2016 NFL season so far.
