NFL odds: Cardinals eight-point favorites against Jets on Monday Night Football

The Arizona Cardinals (2–3) will have the benefit of some extra rest after playing on Thursday in Week 5 and hope quarterback Carson Palmer will be able to return to the field for the first time since Oct. 2 as they host the New York Jets (1–4) on Monday night.

The Cards are set as eight-point favorites at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com after beating the San Francisco 49ers 33–21 as 3.5-point road chalk last week.

Palmer has been in the NFL’s concussion protocol ever since he suffered a hit to the head at the end of a 17–13 home loss to the Los Angeles Rams in Week 4. Arizona was a 10-point home favorite against the Rams—failing to cover for the eighth time in 10 games at University of Phoenix Stadium—and is simply not the same team offensively with backup Drew Stanton at quarterback.

Stanton completed only 11-of-28 passes for 124 yards in the team’s win at San Francisco, but two of them did go for touchdowns.

Regardless, the Jets could find it difficult to cover the Cardinals if cornerback Darrell Revis misses another game. Revis has not played since Week 4 against the Seattle Seahawks due to a hamstring injury, and he is clearly not the same Pro Bowl player he once was.

New York head coach Todd Bowles will also be making his return to Arizona, where he served as defensive coordinator under Bruce Arians in 2013 and ’14.

If Bowles is going to keep his team close and cover the spread at the Cardinals, he will need his quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick to have another turnover-free game as well.

Fitzpatrick did not throw an interception in last week’s 31–13 road loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers after tossing nine picks in the previous two games combined. The running game for the Jets struggled though and will also have to perform better.

The good news for New York is that the team has won four of its last five straight up following consecutive losses along with taking each of the past five meetings with Arizona, according to the OddsShark NFL Database.

The bad news is the Jets have also gone just 1-5-1 against the spread in their past seven games after an ATS loss. In addition, the Cardinals have won eight straight at home following a loss there.
