New York Jets vs Philadelphia Eagles: Rapid Reaction
The New York Jets were defeated by the Philadelphia Eagles to a final score of 14-6 in a game that showed some major weaknesses on Gang Green.
This game really wasn’t a pretty one in any way, shape, or form for the New York Jets falling 14-6 to the Philadelphia Eagles. The defense was impressive as they forced the Eagles into four turnovers, two of which were interceptions. The 14 points the Eagles got weren’t the fault of the Jets’ defense as they were on due to bad coverage in kick returns and special teams in general.
The offense was pretty bad, especially at the quarterback position. Bryce Petty was 4-6 with 87 yards and a touchdown, so he was off to a great start. Unfortunately, he hurt his left shoulder and had to leave the game, and didn’t return.
Hackenberg went 11-31 with only 54 yards, which was an average of 1.7 yards per completion while also throwing an interception. It was disappointing to see Petty got hurt, because this was really his chance to shine for the backup quarterback job.
We didn’t see a great performance out of the rushing game either as Khiry Robinson started and had 13 carries for 25 yards. Antone Smith did better getting 10 carries for 27 yards. Don’t expect to be seeing either of these guys during the regular season. Running back Matt Forte is an older player but whatever plays he doesn’t play on, Bilal Powell will be out there especially after a strong 2015 campaign.
More from The Jet Press
The receiving wasn’t great, but one guy that stood out to me this preseason has been Robby Anderson.
Against the Eagles, Anderson had two receptions for 61 yards and a touchdown.
He definitely will make the regular season roster and could be a solid receiver alongside Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker.
Jalin Marshall is another guy that made serious noise during the preseason. Against the Eagles, he had one reception for 17 yards.
The Jets’ offense had plenty of opportunities as the Eagles turned the ball over four times but they couldn’t capitalize. Juston Burris and Taiwan Jones each had an interception for the Jets. The Jets’ defense also recovered two fumbles.
Overall it was a decent performance but can easily be improved. The Jets must take as much as they can from this game because playing decent won’t win them football games early on as they face a brutal schedule the first six weeks of the regular season.
