New England Patriots first team to offer 'jersey guarantee' if players leave team
No fan wants to drop the serious cash necessary to buy their favorite player’s jersey only to see him skip town a few months later.
The New England Patriots are offering fans some peace of mind on this front with their newly announced “jersey guarantee.”
The first deal of its kind in the NFL, any fan who buys a Patriots jersey from the official team store or website on or after May 8, 2014, will receive a 25 percent discount toward the purchase of another if the player whose jersey they initially bought is no longer under contract with the team within a calendar year of purchase.
Fans also do not have to return their original jersey to receive the discount. The offer has some fine print, but it certainly sounds intriguing, especially for a team that routinely cycles through starters at every position but quarterback (Tom Brady jersey owners, you’re probably safe).
This is the second unprecedented jersey deal the Patriots have introduced in the last year, following last summer’s decision to allow fans to exchange their Aaron Hernandez jerseys after the former tight end was arrested on murder charges.
