Mychal Kendricks finally reports to Eagles' offseason program

Published May. 5, 2015 12:17 p.m. ET

When Mychal Kendricks didn't show up to the start of the Philadelphia Eagles' offseason voluntary workouts, speculation run rampant. Many expected that Kendricks would be traded before or during the 2015 NFL Draft. As the draft completed, Kendricks was still on the roster.

According to Derrick Gunn of CSN Philly, Kendricks has rejoined the team. In his absence, Kendricks asserts that he was on a pre-planned vacation and then spending time with his brother Eric during his pre-draft process.

Although he wasn't dealt, Kendricks didn't come out of the draft completely unscathed. The Eagles use their third-round draft choice on University of Texas linebacker Jordan Hicks. Aside from the fact that Hicks lives by the team-first mentality that Chip Kelly breeds, he is also an inside linebacker prospect. He is known for his ability to "quarterback" the defense, and the Eagles are likely grooming Hicks to be a long-term stalwart in the middle.

Kendricks' future with the team is still up for grabs. Keep in mind, Kelly referred to Kendricks' injury history as "a difficult thing" for the team.

With DeMeco Ryans, Kiko Alonso, Mychal Kendricks and now Jordan Hicks all projected to compete for two inside linebacker spots, something has to give. Kendricks is set to hit free agency in 2016, and at this point it's tough to envision him back in an Eagles uniform.
