"Mike Pereira's Tough Calls" Sports Emmy Awards Submission

Published Jan. 27, 2015 6:02 p.m. ET

Mike Pereira is not just a rules expert for football games on FOX, but he is an authority on the inner workings of officiating regardless of where a football game airs. On foxsports.com, Mike Pereira is always watching the action and ready at a moment’s notice to provide thoughtful insight only an experienced official can provide.  Whether it’s an NFL game on FOX, an NFL game on a competitor network, or a college game anywhere, viewers had the option to check in with Mike P if there was a tough call that needed additional explanation.

Mike provides strong opinions on Ndamukong Suh’s  stepping on Aaron Rodgers calf during NFL Wildcard weekend. Pereira immediately says he did not feel that Suh’s actions warranted any fine or suspension – and the NFL eventually overturned their suspension ruling. Mike also explains how Jameis Winston should have been ejected for pushing an official out of the way in Florida State’s game against Boston College, which the Seminoles won narrowly on a late field goal. Had this call been made to Mike’s liking the entire college football season would have been drastically different. He also gives a thorough explanation of a horse-collar tackle and weighs in on “Deflategate.”

Having a go-to source for any football call anywhere is a unique approach to the ever-developing world of TV Rules Experts. Yet, there’s no one like Pereira to provide the ultimate authority on how the game should be called. In the past, his wisdom only appeared on Fox; but by using the power of the internet, he’s expanded his ability to serve fans no matter where they are enjoying the sport, and for this he should be recognized.
