Meet Spencer Ware -- the latest surprise in the Chiefs' backfield

Published Nov. 24, 2015 12:31 a.m. ET

It turns out general manager John Dorsey has been stockpiling running backs on the Chiefs' roster.

Spencer Ware is just his latest find. The former sixth-round pick entered Week 11 with no professional carries and left with 96 yards and two touchdowns.

“He’s a powerful kid that has shown us the caliber that you just saw today in practices and thepreseason,” Chiefs coach Andy Reid told reporters. “It’s a tribute to Dorsey and the job that he’s done on bringing talent in here."

Credit the LSU product for his preparedness, too. He needed to enter the game on a moment's notice when fellow Dorsey find Charcandrick West left with a hamstring injury.

His team didn't regret the move. He tallied three times as many yards rushing as he had total offensive snaps through two professional seasons.

His most impressive tote came midway through the fourth quarter. Ware took a handoff, bounced off several Chargers defenders, and rumbled for a 52-yard pick-up.

Don't be surprise if the Chiefs feature Ware as the power runner to West's pop going forward.

Said Ware after his breakout game: “That's the mindset -- hit them or get hit. That's how it's always been."
