Marcus Sherels 79 yard punt return touchdown: Vikings vs Texans

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

Minnesota Vikings punt returner Marcus Sherels brought the ball back 79 yards against the Houston Texans for a touchdown during week 5 against Houston.

With the Minnesota Vikings already finding the end zone twice during the week 5 game against the Houston Texans, things got even more out of hand when the boys in purple made a huge stop on defense.

The Texans were forced to punt the ball away, and things didn’t quite go as Houston’s special teams coverage unit would have hoped, as it was a dangerous to kick the ball away in the direction of dynamic runner Marcus Sherels.

A nice, deep punt from Houston landed right in the hands of Marcus Sherels. With the help of some good blocking and a stutter-stop move, the first wave of blockers were left in the trail of dust behind the return man.

Sherels then found a seam up the middle and turned on the speed. He dashed through the gap, and ended up with the punter as the only man standing between him and reaching the end zone for a touchdown.

A quick change of direction left the punter diving at air. With no defenders left in front of Sherels, it was an easy path of end zone and another Marcus Sherels return touchdown.

The entire play covered 79 yards, but went by so fast because of the great speed and acceleration of Marcus Sherels and fantastic blocking from the Minnesota Vikings special teams unit.

Sherels has established himself as a big threat to score the ball any time he is punted to. Having a weapon like him available is a huge feather in the cap of a team which is built around a strong defense and efficient offense.
