Longtime Panthers DE Charles Johnson re-signing after being cut

Longtime Carolina Panthers defensive end Charles Johnson is re-signing with the NFC champions after being cut last week, he told ESPN's Josina Anderson.

FOX Sports' Mike Garafolo confirmed it's a one-year, $3 million deal.

Johnson, 29, is No. 2 on the Panthers' career list in sacks (63.5) and forced fumbles (17). However, he missed seven games last season with a hamstring injury and recorded only one sack. He did pick up three in the playoffs.

Johnson told Anderson he "came pretty close" to signing with the Giants, "but ultimately my heart is in Carolina. It's not about the money. Carolina is home, and I wouldn't have been happy if I went somewhere else."
