Cheifs’ Phillip Gaines returned to practice in a limited role on Thursday.
He could be very helpful for the Chiefs to have on Sunday against Drew Brees if he can stay healthy the entire game. The issue with Gaines is if he goes out early you are back down to 4 active corners which is tough for KC. The Chiefs could help their situation with Gaines by dropping more into coverage against Brees and using more DB’s than normal. The Saints aren’t a running team so going with two down lineman, 3 LB’s and 6 DB’s most of the game should be something the Chiefs consider.
Chris Jones had his first tackle for a loss of his NFL career on Sunday.
While it appeared to be a good play it was talked about today by Bob Sutton and Chris Jones. He missed his assignment on the play and got lucky that he ran right into the ball carrier. Jones was supposed to hold his position on that particular play as it was 2nd and short. Instead he hit the RB deep in the backfield and two plays later the Raiders turned the ball over on downs after two incompletions by Carr.
Kansas City is getting into a very interesting part of their schedule. The next two games are against teams that are underachieving in the Saints and the Colts. Then they take on the Jaguars at home and then travel to Carolina to take on another underachieving team in the Panthers before playing the Buccaneers at home. If Kansas City can continue to run the ball well and their defense plays as well as they did in Oakland they could come out of the next 5 games 7-3.
