Locked On Chiefs - KC closer as Raiders week kicks off

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 8:54 p.m. ET

KANSAS CITY, MO – JANUARY 03: Quarterback Alex Smith

Chiefs should be bolstered by the cracks shown by the AFC West division leader on Sunday.

In an eventful Sunday in the NFL, one major AFC West team took a stumble. The Denver Broncos fell back to earth and looked like a team that can be beaten for the first time on 2016. Rookie quarterback Paxton Lynch had trouble moving the Bronco offense. Atlanta was the first team in 2016 to make the Denver defense look vulnerable.

Injury Updates will mark the Chiefs progress

Two important updates will likely highlight the preparations during Raider week. Jamaal Charles had a few touches in week four and looked to have regained his explosion. Confirmation will come this week whether he will be able to start vs. Oakland. He can be the spark to ignite the Chiefs offense.

On defense, the team had expected Justin Houston to see his Dr. for follow up during the bye week. The team could announce an update to his status this week, but that is not guaranteed. Houston could have a positive effect on the Chiefs even before he is able to return to the field. If the team is able to confirm Houston will play in 2016, even if only in the playoffs, it will give the the defense a needed boost in drive to hold the line until he is back.
