The Detroit Lions have placed tailback Kevin Smith on injured reserve with a thumb injury, ending his season.

Before Sunday's game at Dallas, the Lions added linebacker Caleb Campbell from their practice squad and he was active for the game.

Cornerback Terence Newman was active and starting for the Cowboys despite an ankle injury that had him listed as questionable. Newman has also been playing through a painful rib injury.

Lions defensive end Cliff Avril, out with a quadriceps injury, was replaced in the starting lineup by Turk McBride.
