Lance Briggs says he wanted to punch Jay Cutler, other Bears QBs

I.K. Enemkpali, the linebacker responsible for breaking the jaw of New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith, could have used a lesson in self-restraint from former Chicago Bears linebacker Lance Briggs.

In an appearance on NFL Network, Briggs was asked if he ever wanted to punch quarterback Jay Cutler during their six seasons as teammates in Chicago (2009-2014), according to ESPN's Jeff Dickerson.

"There have been times, yeah," Briggs said, per ESPN. "Why didn’t I do it? Because out of respect."

But Briggs' career with the Bears began six seasons before Cutler joined the team, so there were several other quarterbacks on the vicious linebacker's sucker-punch wish list as well. The list included Craig Krenzel ('04), Caleb Hanie ('09-11), Rex Grossman ('03-08), Kordell Stewart ('03) and Jonathan Quinn ('04), according to ESPN.

"Yes, I wanted to punch [Quinn] because the defense was on the field 90 plays a game [in 2004]," Briggs said, per ESPN. "I wanted to punch Rex Grossman in Miami [where the Bears lost Super Bowl XLI to the Indianapolis Colts]."

In Cutler's defense, it seems like Briggs wanted to punch just about every quarterback he ever played with at one point or another. According to ESPN, the only two quarterbacks Briggs said he never wanted to punch during his 12-year NFL career were Kyle Orton ('05, '07-08) and Brian Griese ('06-07).
