LaDainian Tomlinson: Philip Rivers won't play for Chargers in 2015
by David Kenyon
Uncertainty has clouded the future of San Diego Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers and what stadium he’ll call home during the 2015 NFL season.
From rumors connecting him to the Cleveland Browns and Tennessee Titans to his lack of desire to play in Los Angeles should the franchise move to the City of Angels, Rivers’ football home seems to be anywhere but San Diego.
Legendary Chargers running back turned-NFL Network analyst LaDainian Tomlinson apparently believes the same.
Rivers, who can opt out of his contract following the 2015 season, has been linked to the Browns as an upgrade over Josh McCown and Johnny Manziel. As for the Titans, Rivers would be a necessary piece to help the Chargers swing a trade, presumably for top prospect Marcus Mariota.
Plus, according to Kevin Acee of UT San Diego, Rivers has little interest in the team’s possible relocation in 2016.
“What we’ve established here with my growing family is hard to recreate. It’s hard to up and recreate that. I know that moves are part of life. But that certainly is fair to say that (not being sold on moving to Los Angeles) is part of it. The good thing is I’m not under contract in a year where we’d potentially be in Los Angeles.”
But if LT’s speculation—or perhaps source—is accurate, instead of a 120-mile difference between San Diego and LA next season, Rivers might instead find himself 2,021 miles away in Nashville or 2,366 in Cleveland.
