Kubiak: Broncos top pick Shane Ray is 'close' to a return

Gary Kubiak hasn't been able to see what his top pick can do in a Broncos uniform.

But that day sounds like it'll come soon the team's new head coach. Kubiak told the Denver Post that rookie linebacker Shane Ray is "close" to rejoining the team from his toe injury.

“I think next week you’ll see him do some individual (work) and those types of things," Kubiak said. "We fitted him with some orthotics. He’s feeling good. He’s done some work. He’s done a lot of treatment.”

The pass rusher out of Missouri sounds a little more optimistic about his timetable. He told the Denver Post he could return as early as Thursday.

“But it’s a process and it’s not something we want to rush," Ray said. "We want to make sure that when I do come back, I can be me."
