Kubiak and Dennison 'crushed' by Ryan Clady's injury
Gary Kubiak and Rick Dennison will try to patch up a gaping hole on the left side of their line eventually. For right now, the new coach and the new offensive coordinator are just shocked.
Dennison summed up the mood at Dove Valley best.
"I'm crushed," the longtime playcaller told reporters after Thursday's OTAs.
After an offseason of questions and losses, losing Clady to a season-ending ACL tear doesn't just hurt -- it kills. Denver now needs to patch up to four starters from last year's offensive line. Chris Clark, who was brought back on Thursday, could end up protecting Peyton Manning's blindside.
Kubiak has yet to solve the football side of this equation. The head coach had his worst day on the job, and it's still May.
"I’m just devastated and feel bad for Ryan," Kubiak said. "“Very, very tough day for me and even tougher for Ryan."
It'll only get tougher for the two of them going forward. Clady has a long, grueling rehabilitation ahead of him and might not ever be the same.
Meanwhile, Kubiak could face a similar grueling stretch -- the 2015 season, without his Pro Bowl left tackle.
